Character in Action

I just finished reading Mike Huckabee’s book, Character Makes a Difference. I have always been impressed with how Governor Huckabee talks respectfully about his opponents. He clearly articulates his position and fairly spells out their position and highlights the differences. He doesn’t attack them. As an example, take a look at his comments on Barak Obama. He encourages discussion on the issues – not tearing down the person.

From Character Makes a Difference:

General Robert E. Lee was once asked to give his opinion of a man who had spoken ill of him on many occasions. Lee spoke kindly of the man. One of his aides could stand it no longer and spoke up. “General, you have spoken very kindly of this individual, but he has taken every opportunity to speak hatefully about you,” he said. “Why would you say such nice things about him?”

Lee replied, “I was asked my opinion of him, not his opinion of me.”

And from James 1:19-20 (NLT)

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.

Spruce Lake Fishing Derby

2008.06.07 Fishing Derby

Our neighborhood hosted a fishing derby and Brittany won the overall biggest fish category! Each of the kids won some category and I even won a prize for the biggest bass. Jeanette’s fish was the biggest perceived size when measured by camera pixels, but it was really the smallest!!! Sorry, Jeanette – nice try, though! (Click the album above to see more pictures…)

Congratulations Ari!

A Boy and His Dog

Ryan was mentioned in a local news website for his participation in the Reading Rainbow contest at the Peabody Library. Ryan wrote and illustrated a story called, A Boy and His Dog Go To Space. This book was actually the third in a trilogy of “Boy and His Dog” stories.
His first book was called, A Boy and His Dog Go Camping.
The second was called, A Boy and His Dog Go To Washington D.C..

Dear Kate

Our good friend, Kate, died a couple weeks ago. She was amazing to watch when she was worshiping God. Even though she was in her 80′s, she would stand up, raise her arms, and praise God during the praise and worship music.

Ryan made this card for her before we visited her in the hospital on the day she died.  The scene shows the praise and worship band up front and Ryan and Kate in the pews singing along!

Delay of Game for Mike Huckabee

MikeHuckabee.com - I Like Mike!
Tuesday, March 4 marked the end to a great candidacy for President of the United States in 2008. Unfortunately, we just began to support Mike. (…Because we did not get serious about knowing the candidates until February! We had 3 months until our primary, right?!?)  We whole heartedly believe it was better late than never to support Mike’s run for the White House. His appeal goes beyond campaigns to convictions and beyond platforms to the person.
